DARS is organized into four divisions which administer a variety of programs:
- Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS)
- Blind Services
- Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECI)
- Disability Determination
DARS does not run any specific programs. Instead, they connect individuals with service providers who meet DARS criteria and, in most cases, secure funding.
I HAVE A BRAIN INJURY. WHAT CAN DARS DO FOR ME?The DARS Department of Rehabilitation Services (known as DRS) administers the following:
- Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services:
helps Texans with traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries receive intensive therapies to increase independence. - Independent Living Services:
- Concentrate on self-sufficiency and quality of life, even if work potential is limited.
- Promote self-sufficiency despite significant disability
- Provide people with disabilities with improved mobility, communication, personal adjustment and self-direction.
- Can include Supported Employment andTransition Planning
- Vocational Rehabilitation:
Helps people with disabilities prepare for, find, and keep jobs.Services may include:- counseling
- training
- assistive devices
- job placement assistance
