The Association strives to increase public awareness about
brain injury prevention, the challenge of recovery and
needs of families and survivors. This awareness can influence
the development of needed programs, allocation of funds
and increased support.
The Association meets the 4th Wednesday of each month from
6:00-8:00 PM at the Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center, 2203 Babcock Road.
Call 614-4323 for a personal contact, resource information
and/or the program for the next scheduled meeting. In addition
to the meetings, the Association sponsors special activities,
arranges outings and holds fundraising events. Everyone who
is interested in giving or receiving support is encouraged
to participate.
AHIA is an organization, which arose from the mutual frustration
and sense of helplessness experienced by families in their
search for appropriate facilities and support to return brain
injured loved ones to maximum functioning potential. It was
organized in 1982 by a group of family members and health
care professionals in an effort to meet the needs of the
survivors of brain injury.
Prior to 1982, there was no public or private agency in
Texas dedicated to providing emotional support, advice, guidance,
or other help for those who are suddenly faced with both
the immediate and potentially long term effects of head injury.
This organization is dedicated to the restoration and maintenance
of the dignity of life for the survivors of brain injury and
their families.
