Financial Help for Brain Injury Survivors



ACAAP PROGRAM PURPOSE
AHIA offers survivors of moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and acquired brain injury (ABI) the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for medical, rehabilitative, adaptive items, educational, home accessibility, training, etc. needs to improve quality of life. This program helps cover essential needs that are not fully funded by insurance, public benefits, or other community resources.
The program reflects AHIA’s mission to empower survivors, reduce barriers to recovery, and promote safe, independent living across Bexar, Kendall, Comal, Guadalupe, Wilson, Mediana, Bandera and Atascosa counties.
Eligible Applicants
Financial assistance is available to:
• Individuals living with a moderate to severe acquired brain injury: traumatic brain injury or non-traumatic brain injury
Adults >18 years or older
• Caregivers applying on behalf of a survivor
• Residents of qualified counties within AHIA’s service area
• Individuals who demonstrate lack of access to other funding
Applicants must be willing to participate in a brief intake conversation with AHIA staff or volunteers and complete a survey after. Assistance amounts are based on available program funds and the nature of the request.
- Up to $800 max per individual per 12-month period.
- Accessibility in your current house - up to $2,000 max per individual.
- Education & Training Grant – up to $2,000 max per individual.
All applicant information is kept confidential and used only for program administration, reporting, and evaluation. The program is administered by the Alamo Head Injury Association. AHIA reserves the right to modify program guidelines, funding limits, or eligibility criteria based on available resources/community needs.
